Working from home is so hard especially when you have a 6 year old at home. Add being a teacher on to that. Learning apps have really helped my daughter with her remote learning while at the same time, helped me be able to balance between both work and supporting my daughter.
Below are some learning apps, that are totally worth the download that truly support those standards of a specific age group. Most of these apps or programs could be used for kids in graded Pre-K – 6th grade.
- Lalilo http://www.lalilo.com – Best phonics and reading program I have seen thus far when it comes to supporting students with sounding out the words, writing them, reading them, listening to them. It truly covers the four modalities of reading, speaking, listening, and writing. Oh and everytime they pass a level they receive a item for virtual camping. They also win books that they can read and saves it in their library. 1 lesson per day(10 minutes) is normally enough for this. There is a test they take at the start of the app so that it can place the child in the right place when it comes to how well they know how to read. If you child is in school, you can contact your child’s teacher and they will be able to set up an account for you!
2.Khan Academy Kids – This app is ahhhmazing and has been scientifically proven to help young children from ages 2-7 to show improvement in their speaking, listening, reading, and comprehension. My daughter does about 15 minutes a day, and he has improved her reading so much. It has several math games, puzzles, prizes. It saves their progress, so they can pick up on their lessons at any time.
Happy Numbers is a math program that works to strengthen math skills. It really supports your child, so that they can do it alone. It reads them the problems out loud, it has visuals, and manipulatives. It saves the the progress, and makes an individualized learning path depending on the level of your child.
4.Prodigy– Prodigy is like Pokemon for learning math. Your child can create their own avatar and uses it as a character to explore the world. When they battle other people, the attacks are math problems depending on what your child is learning. If they solve the math problem correctly, they get a strong attack and get to continue playing the game. I downloaded it right on my daughter’s i-Pad and the set up was easy. It saves their progress and parents get a report on how they are doing with their lessons.
The Endless Learning Academy App which is available on both Android and Apple is the first app I ever had my daughter use. She used it from when she was about 3 years old. This program teaches everything from sight words, counting, reading, Spanish, music, vocabulary, the list goes on. The games are very easy to use and textile. You child gets to drag and drop words and numbers to create words and complete sentences. It’s so worth and just 10 minutes a day is all you need.
