We all have books that influenced our lives or have given us a new perspective on how to live our lives and how to reflect on our life choices. Books are an escape for many, and it was a second home for me as child.

I remember sitting on the living room carpet floor and devouring books back-to-back until I could visit the library again. As a teenager, the library was my favorite place.

There I discovered many books that helped develop my love for reading ,forever.

Below are a list of books that truly impacted me when I was a teenager.

1.Forever by Judy Blume

Now this book is powerful and I feel like every teenager should read this book. It takes us through a young girl and boys first experiences with love, sex, and relationships.  It’s gave me a realistic approach to relationships at a young age. When we are in high school we think that all relationships are forever, but the reality is that some relationships are just for a season and this book takes you through that cycle.

2.Go Ask Alice by Anonymous

The book explores the dangers of experimenting with drugs told in the form of a true life journal entries from a teenage girl. Readers follow her through her early experiences with peer pressure, drugs, and parties. She instantly fall in love for her innocence and feel so bad for her the inevitable fate. “Go Ask Alice” is a powerful book, with a powerful message.

3.The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton

“Stay Golden” are the two most important words in this captivating work of fiction. This story reminds you to stay true to yourself and to not let society and the people around you change who you are. That is an important theme to carry with you as you are developing into a young adult.

4.New Moon By Stephenie Meyer

The Twilight Saga was an extremely popular series. Stephenie Meyer’s second book in the series: New Moon, resonated so much with me as I was growing up. In Twilight, we meet Bella and Edward that fall deeply in love despite their differences. In New Moon, the obstacles of their differences come to head. This book taught me so much about the sacrifices that need to be made when you are in love. Sometimes couples need space to grow on their own and to become individual before they can grow with another person. In New Moon, we see this through the experiences of Bella as she goes through the trials and tribulations of letting go.

5. Summer Sisters by Judy Blume

Summer Sisters is an amazing book that every teenager and young adult should read. It truly opens your eyes to the dynamic of female friendships. Sometimes we need to let bygones be bygones and despite the history we may have with a person, we need to love ourselves first. Many people put some much value into love relationships but never into their friendships. This books helped me learned that you must respect, honor, and nurture your friendships with the same magnitude that you do your relationships with a spouse or partner.

These books taught me so many important lessons as I grew into my adulthood.
