Three day weekends are for relaxing with a great book. It’s great to use extended weekends to binge read a book or two. Below I have listed some books that you could enjoy this Memorial Day Weekend or during your next long weekend.
1. The Ballad of The Song Birds and Snakes by Suzanne Collins
If you have followed “The Hunger Games” Series, you have all been waiting for the Pre-quil titled “The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes” by Suzanne Collins. This books follows Snow during his young years, and it helps readers understand more about who Snow was and the very beginnings of the games. Read this book to jump back into the Capital and live in the world of the Districts, and re-live the anxiety of not knowing who will make it to the end.
2. Cinder by Marissa Meyer (Available in Spanish)
Cinder is part of the Lunar Chronicles. It is the first book of the series. This story is a “modern” version of Cinderella. The story follows a 16 year old named Cinder who is struggling with her relationship with her stepmother. Cinder has a special ability of being able to fix things which makes her one of the best mechanics in New Beijing. Soon Prince Kai hears of this mechanic and goes in search to find her in order to ask for help with fixing an android. This is a magical story, and if you are a fan of fantasy and Disney it will be refreshing to indulge in this week this weekend and escape to a far away land.
3. Red Queen by Victoria Aveyard
Red Queen is the story of a young girl named Mare Borrow. In her world, people are divided by their blood types. They either have red blood or silver blood. Mare Barrow has red blood, and soon she begins to find out what that means in her world. In this story, readers follow Mare through her discoveries of who she is, what she is fated for, and the wars that begin as she begins to take ownership of her power.
4. Conversations with Friends A Novel by Sally Rooney
In this hard to put down novel, we meet the character of Frances. She is cool, calm and collective until she gets entangled with a married couple that she meets one day. She is easily impressed by the couple, and the husband, Nick, seems to be getting a little too flirty or is he just friendly?
Happy Reading ! 🙂
